Welcome to Kentucky!

Kentucky, known as the “Bluegrass State”, is a land comprised of fertile soil where bluegrass is present throughout the state. Some of its abundant resources include the world’s longest cave system, two of the largest man-made lakes east of the Mississippi River along with over 90,000 miles of streams. With the high calcium content of the soil in the Bluegrass Region, Kansas is known as one of the major horse breeding areas. The Kentucky Derby, held annually in Louisville, Kentucky, is known as the “Greatest Two Minutes in Sports”. It is rich with dozens of traditions that Churchill Downs’ employees, horsemen and millions of Derby fans worldwide hold dear.

Kentucky’s climate, described as humid subtropical climate, includes all four seasons, usually with striking variations in the severity of summer and winter from year to year. The state ranks 4th in the U.S. in the number of automobiles and trucks assembled including the well-known corvette. Along with its excellent farming conditions, horse breeding and wineries, Kentucky leads the nation in the production of bituminous coal and whiskey and ranks 2nd in tobacco output.

The state of Kentucky, with its Bluegrass Region, horse country, bourbon and cave exploring, has a small-town feel and charm. It will simply surprise you with all it has to offer!
